AI DESIGNER | SEPT 2022 - CURRENT

I am an AI Designer at Cloud Imperium Games, My roles within the team include:

 

  • Using in-house visual scripting software to create AI behaviours

  • Using in-house database and animation software to create usables

  • Collaborating with artists, animators and VFX to create new usables

  • Implementing behaviours and usables into production levels

  • Implementing animations for AI to use when interacting with usables

  • Using 3DS Max to mockup quick templates for usables.

    • Ensuring naming conventions and 3D workflows were used

  • Contributing to design discussions with leads and directors to help solve design decisions

  • Creating & updating design documentation for AI usables and AI behaviours
    including:

    • Using Visio to create interaction state machines

    • Using Confluence, Jira and excel to track tasks and detail designs on usables and AI behaviours

I had no experience with Lumberyard or CryEngine before working at CIG, however after a few weeks and thanks to my previous Unity+Unreal engine experience, I became pretty proficient working within the engine.

Working on such a large project definitely presents a lot of creative challenges, however dedication and creative thinking help me to tackle all of the obstacles I face. Although I mainly work on Squadron 42 for now, the behaviours and usables we create are still able to be used within the PU (Persistant Universe), therefore any design decision we make, must account for both Squadron and PU usecases, this means all possibilities must be accounted for when creating something and we need to make our work as leak-proof as possible!
