The Brief
The assignment given by the client was to “to prototype a game to assist students on the MSc Counselling and Positive Psychology programme with learning and practicing skills related to risk-assessment in counselling. In addition, you need to imagine that your team is an independent studio that aims to apply for the government’s Video Games Tax Relief (VGTR) scheme in order to support this development.”
The final artefact was to be presented to the industry client alongside a presentation detailing the development processes for the game.
The Concept
Because the brief was to create a prototype, we decided to go for a slightly larger scale of game than we normally would, so at first the focus was placed on thoroughly planning out game mechanics. As the main designer for the game, I wanted the level(s) to be simple to allow for the players to customise the offices to thier liking. After each stage of whiteboxing I gave my feedback on how each part of the level should work with the games mechanics. To begin I made an intial sketch for the level idea I wanted for the game. This was then communicated to the level designer and they worked on it throughout the project.
